Oct. 27, 2004 - 8:05 p.m. took my oldest kitty to the vet today, cuz she's kinda stopped eating over the last 4 - 5 days, and she's lost a lot of weight in the last few weeks. Its very bad for kitties to lose a lot of weight quickly, so I was concerned. We already know she has hyperthyroid, although when it was checked last, she wasn't far enough along in the course of the illness to be able to treat her permanently (radioactive tiger cat! :D) So, she's been doing all the expected hyperthyroid things for the last few months.... eating more and more and MORE, and being more active, and somewhat more grumpy with the other cats. And losing weight a little at a time was not unexpected. The NOT wanting to eat was very out-of-character... and when I weighed her last night, she's lost about 1.5 pounds in the last couple weeks. Thats 10 - 12% of her total body weight. In 2 weeks. see why we were worried? so we got a call from the vet around mid-morning and it seems our baby has developed diabetes in the last month. My poor kitty has to have shots twice a day every day from now until forever. :( :( the less-bad news is, the vet did call at the end of the day and leave a message; they finished the lab work and gave her the first insulin shot, and she was alert and scarfing down her food like the hungry grey kitty we love. long day :( leave me a note sign my guestbook |
